Busy, and an IDEA!

I have really been trying to cut back on photography sessions. It is adding too much stress on my family. Then end of the summer is slipping away to quickly. I was sad to leave my family so much on the only day my husband is home. I "booked" a few sessions and titled them "TAKE A BREAK!!!!!". Then I got a call from a woman who wanted family pictures, ASAP. I made an exception and scheduled a MONDAY evening session for her. I am crazy. I couldn't call one of the girls in my ward and ask them to babysit on a Monday night. Thank goodness my friend Emily came to rescue me. She watched her kids, and mine over here.

Then I got a call from a woman that had her baby a month early. We had a tentative date set aside in Sept. Well, now I am photographing her baby on Friday. I also have another session on Saturday. At this moment I have 3 sessions to proof, and after this weekend I will have FIVE. So much for taking a break. I usually proof at night, but sometimes I would rather NOT sit at my computer.

Okay I feel better now. Sometimes I just need to get it all written out, and then I can go take care of it.

I have the most wonderful idea. I am starting to get a lot of families that want to book sessions in the fall. We all know the colorful leaves aren't on the trees very long. In order to take advantage that time, I am planning to do a FAMILY PHOTOGRAPH DAY! This day will just be for friends and ward members. I will book the entire day (well at least the parts of the day with good light) in half hour increments. I am trying to figure out exactly what to charge, and what the families will receive. I know everyone will want a big picture (11x14 or 8x10) and then ONE digital file so they can use it for their Christmas cards. I am still brain storming the details....like an add on package for individual images of the kids. They would have to book another half an hour for that. I can already hear Lincoln saying, "Don't you DARE give away that digital file.", so I may need to design a Christmas card package. My cards are cuter than anything you will get a Costco anyway. Let me know what you think.

Sounds great! If I could get someone ELSE to take a picture of my family, I might actually be in a Christmas pic this year!

I hear you on getting too busy. I always say I'm going to cut back on lessons, and then when people quit, I just take on the next people who ask anyway. Argh!

I think it's a great idea. Do you do individuals? I only come as one, and it's been too long since I've had a formal picture taken--the one my Dad has is at least 15 years old!

Hi, I don't know if you even remember us but we were in your ward for a while and moved out a little over a year ago. Anyway, I check your blog sometimes and love your pictures. We would love to get a family Christmas picture taken so if you do end up doing your Family Day could we participate too? I know you'll be super busy so if we have to schedule another day on our own then maybe we can do that too :)

Jeri, you are my photography guru! I know I need to stop giving so much of my work away, but I lack confidence. It boils down to me saying to myself, "Why would anyone pay for my stuff?" Sometimes I feel good about offering a service as a gift and sometimes I'll ask for a fee when I feel like I'm getting taken advantage of, but I struggle to just turn the corner and call myself a pro. How did you make the jump? I just need to hang out with you so you'll rub off on me.

Kellie, I need to call you! I have a lot to say....but this probably isn't the best place. (As it's on my blog, and you might not see this again! =)
